My best sales advice to you is eliminate the automatic habit of rejecting that which you don’t understand or that which confuses you or makes you uncomfortable. Only when you open your mind up to the great unknown can you experience miracles.
One of the most fascinating topics in Physics is the study of Quantum Mechanics.
According to Niels Bohr, “Anyone who is not shocked by quantum theory has not understood it”. Richard Feynman, one of the founders of quantum field theory remarked, “I think I can safely say that nobody understands quantum theory”.
This science of quantum theory is behind such technological innovations as lasers, television, computers, space communication and nuclear energy. Some have called it the most powerful science ever conceived by human beings.
Quantum physics also has staggering implications regarding you, your potential and the power of your mind.
The simple layman’s explanation of this science is that at the atomic level, sub atomic particles seem to be able to jump from one place or orbit to another without apparent effort and without having to cover all of the bases between starting and ending points.
The Business and Sales Application
If sub atomic particles can go from one place or orbit with no apparent effort, it must also be true that human beings can do the same. In short, you and I can literally double or triple or quadruple our success rate with little or no apparent effort…. even if we have no idea or understanding of why it happens.
I know this seems like hog wash or science fiction.
I thought the same thing until it happened to me.
In 1996, I was making $53,000 a year as a corporate sales rep.
Three years later I was making over $350,000. That’s a seven hundred percent increase.
I did not work harder. I did not increase my selling skills by a factor of seven.
What I did do was change the mental picture of what I wanted.
Yes, I worked hard but I have always worked hard.
I got very focused on what I wanted my end result to be. The best sales advice I can give you to make this possible is to get very focused and change the mental picture of what you want and why you want it.
You may think this sales advice is BS, but I can tell you from personal experience it is not.
That said, you must work. You cannot sit on your butt and meditate and expect explosive growth to occur. As a great copywriter once said, “motion beats mediation”.
In my sales coaching practice, I spend considerable time getting my clients to focus on developing accurate thinking about what they want and why they want it.
The best sales advice I can give you….
Get a notebook, journal or composition book and spend fifteen minutes each day writing down the answer to the question, “what do you really, really, really want and why do you want it”.
I don’t know why or how doing this works just like I don’t know why or how electricity works. But just because I don’t know why these work doesn’t mean they don’t work.
